Food Magnet.jpg

Love yourself, feed yourself

June 19, 2018

The inspiration for this illustration was (no joke) a really, really tasty lunch. I remember feeling content (because it was delicious), nourished (because it was nutrient-rich), and accomplished (because I made it myself) - and I thought about how wonderful it was to feel that way about a lunch. Food has such incredible power to bring joy, show love, and nourish our bodies, but it can be a luxury to experience that.

Our society complicates our relationship with food and many of us (particularly women and girls) are taught to feel guilt or shame over eating certain foods or eating in certain quantities. I remember being scared to eat potato chips in front of other people for the longest time because I grew up thinking it was deeply shameful to eat junk food!

I made these fridge magnets as a way of reminding myself of how joyful food can be and to nourish myself with tasty things and kind thoughts. Hug yourself and hug your food too!
